Debra Rogers – July Volunteer of the Month

Posted on July 16, 2020

Debra Rogers is a dedicated and passionate volunteer who is our volunteer of the month for July. Learn more about her below.

Debra Rogers is our July Volunteer of the Month.

What area(s) do you volunteer? Cancer Center and President of Volunteer Auxiliary

Why did you choose to volunteer at Morristown-Hamblen? I chose to volunteer to be helpful to others. My mother passed away of cancer and I chose to volunteer in the Cancer Center to honor her. Since I have been volunteering, I have been diagnosed and undergone cancer treatment myself, so I feel I can relate to the patients on a personal level. I am a two year breast cancer survivor and I strive to give patients hope.

Where are you from? Talbott, TN

What is a random fact or talent about yourself? I am a 30 year retired teacher. Two of my former students are nurses here at the hospital.

What is your favorite food? Turtle Cheesecake

If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why? My father, Howard Malone. He passed away when I was only 19 and there are so many things I would still love to ask him and learn from him.

What is your favorite TV show or movie? I don’t really have a favorite. I love thrillers and “who dunnits”

What is your greatest accomplishment? My family. I have two children that are both nurse practitioners and four beautiful grandchildren that I love to brag about!

Would you choose a free trip or money? I would love a trip to Fiji to stay in a hut on the water!

What is your favorite childhood memory? Playing with my neighborhood friends. We played for hours each day riding bikes, jumping in the leaves, playing with Barbies, and just being carefree kids!
