For this week’s Meet the Staff Monday, we would like to spotlight some of the staff from our Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. They also wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Learn more about them below:
The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System offers traditional and advanced wound care services and is the area’s only advanced wound care center to provide hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. The center opened in May 2019 on the fourth floor of MHHS and they have certainly exceeded expectations. Being open over six months, they have met and surpassed their goals by 2000% for HBO patients (yes, 2000!) and over 110% for wound care patients. Hours have had to be extended some days due to the high demand. Barbara Jacobson, MSN and Program Director, commented on the success saying “We appreciate how all the providers in the community recognize that specialized wound care can benefit their patients. It has been an absolute pleasure working with everyone at MHHS. They are constantly supportive and so willing to help. Gordon Lintz, the CAO and president of MHHS as well as our hospital liaison, has been a great advocate for the wound care center.”
Barbara Jacobson has been in healthcare over 25 years including nursing leadership with over 10 years of experience in wound care as well as five and a half years in HBO care. When asked about her staff at the Wound Care Center, Barbara said “What impresses me most about my staff and the providers is their dedication to their patients including their willingness to extend their hours to provide quality patient care. They truly put their patients first.” That goes right along with the Covenant Health Pledge of Excellence which states:
- The patient always comes first
2. Excellence in everything we do
3. We will do our part to make Covenant Health the first and best choice
The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine also had a successful open house and ribbon cutting with the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce in July 2019. There was a wonderful community response and the staff were very happy with the turnout. The staff members at the MHHS Wound Care Center include Barbara Jacobson who was mentioned above, Jennifer Cole-Nurse Practitioner, Paul Rice-Nurse Practitioner, Mary Serbin-Nurse Practitioner, April King-Registered Nurse, Cheryl Sizemore-Registered Nurse, Misty Keyes-HBO Technician, and Elissa Ramsey-Front Desk Coordinator. The medical director for the MHHS Wound Care Center and Claiborne Medical Center’s newly opened Wound Care Center is Dr. Shahin Assadnia.
