Posted on August 21, 2020

At Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System (MHHS), we honor our staff who provide extraordinary care with The MAPLE Award, a locally created recognition program that celebrates the compassion and skills our staff bring to patients and families every day. Steve Barnes is our August Maple Award recipient.

Steve works at MHHS as a SR Facility Services Tech and has worked here for over 24 years. He is from Greene County and graduated high school though his experience started with working with his dad at age 13. He worked pumping gas, changing oil in vehicles, and fixing flat tires.

Steve Barnes is our MAPLE Award Recipient.

Steve says MHHS is a good place to work with excellence benefits and especially enjoys the great people and management team he works with. He loves helping others.

Steve said his inspiration for what he does is how he enjoys helping others. His father was a mechanic who taught him a lot about repairing all types of cars, trucks, and equipment. His father always said if you fix it right the first time, you don’t have to do it again. This thought has guided Steve through his life. His goals at MHHS are to do the best job he can to keep the hospital running and to help others learn what they need to know when he retires.

The MAPLE award was truly a surprise for Steve and it meant a lot to him. He said that he has a great team at work and they all work together to their accomplish goals and to do the best job for the hospital. He wanted to also thank the administration team for all their help.

Steve mentioned that his family motivates him to get out and do the things he needs to do everyday. His immediate family includes his wife Shatera, daughter Jayma, and son Steven. They keep him going and he loves his family as well as his work family. One of his greatest accomplishments is getting to work with smart people, especially the co-workers who took time for him when he was young.
